Advancing Kazakhstan’s Machinery Manufacturing Industry: IMBC Experts Conclude Working Visit to the Tengiz Oilfield

IMBC specialists visited the production facilities of Tengizchevroil (TCO), one of the largest oil and gas operators in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The working visit was organized to familiarize the delegation with the production infrastructure of the Tengiz oilfield, advanced technological solutions, and the requirements imposed on suppliers of equipment, materials, and services.

Tengizchevroil is one of Kazakhstan’s leading oil and gas companies, bringing together major international and national partners. The consortium includes global energy companies Chevron and ExxonMobil, as well as JSC NC KazMunayGas and PJSC LUKOIL, reflecting the high level of technological expertise and international standards applied in the development of the Tengiz field.

As part of the visit, IMBC representatives held a working meeting with Kuanyshkerei Mukhtarov, Deputy General Director of Tengizchevroil, and the TCO Local Content team.

During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues related to the development of local content and further expansion of the participation of Kazakhstani manufacturers in oil and gas projects. Particular attention was given to improving support mechanisms for domestic enterprises, including current issues related to the e-Öndiris registry and other aspects of production localization. Following the discussions, TCO and IMBC identified a number of joint initiatives aimed at eliminating existing barriers and further increasing the participation of local manufacturers in projects implemented by Kazakhstan’s largest operators.

As part of the visit program, IMBC specialists toured the KTL Complex and the Third Generation Plant (3GP). Accompanied by Tengizchevroil technical specialists, the IMBC delegation gained firsthand insight into the field’s production infrastructure and the key stages of hydrocarbon extraction and processing, including oil, gas, and water separation, subsequent treatment and transportation processes, as well as the advanced engineering solutions employed across the company’s facilities.

The Third Generation Plant (3GP), which produced its first oil in January 2025, forms part of the Future Growth Project (FGP) at the Tengiz field and is among the most advanced industrial facilities in Kazakhstan’s oil and gas sector. The project is expected to increase crude oil production by approximately 12 million tonnes per year. Once all production facilities reach full operational capacity, Tengizchevroil’s total annual oil production is expected to reach approximately 40 million tonnes.

The participants noted the impressive scale of the production infrastructure and the high level of operational excellence. Particular interest was drawn to the company’s quality standards, industrial safety practices, and quality management systems, compliance with which represents one of the key requirements for suppliers to the oil and gas industry.

During the site visit, IMBC specialists also reviewed examples of products supplied by Kazakhstani manufacturers and discussed opportunities for further strengthening local content across the company’s operations.

The experience gained during the visit will be applied in IMBC’s ongoing work with domestic manufacturers. A deeper understanding of production processes and supplier requirements will enable IMBC to more effectively identify development priorities for Kazakhstani enterprises and determine the areas in which they can successfully compete and expand their participation in major oil and gas projects.
